Judge Scott J. Crichton, a 23-year veteran on the First Judicial District Court, presented the Natchitoches Rotary Club with a very timely program on the 2nd Amendment which focused on gun rights, permits, and self protection law. He was joined in the presentation by Lt. Steven Joe, the Training Academy officer for the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office who addressed the common misconceptions on gun rights, the process for concealed carry permits, and carry restrictions. Judge Crichton and Lt. Joe also covered Louisiana law and recent state cases related to self defense and advised everyone that the first action in case of threat of bodily harm should be to contact local law enforcement where possible. Information on concealed carry permits is available from your local sheriff’s office or the Louisiana State Police.
